Update Notifications
Update notifications tell selected users by email that a new version is available: a new version of an application whose deployments are still on an older one, or a new version of an artifact in the registry.
How to Configure Update Notifications
Section titled “How to Configure Update Notifications”In the sidebar, navigate to Notifications > Updates.
- Click Update Notification.
- Optionally enter a name for the configuration.
- Switch between Applications and Artifacts, and select what to watch. One configuration can watch applications and artifacts together, so an application and the images it is shipped with are announced from a single place.
- Select the users who should receive the emails. Your own team, your partners and your customers’ users can all be picked.
Each configuration can be toggled on or off without deleting it, and the History page lists what has been sent.
Configuring for a Customer
Section titled “Configuring for a Customer”The page lists what your own organization has configured. Show customer update notifications leads to the same page for one of your customers, where the breadcrumb switches between them, and the Alerts, Updates and History of a customer can be managed the way their users and secrets are.
A configuration created there belongs to the customer: it can only watch what that customer is entitled to and only notify users of their organization.
Letting Customers Configure Their Own
Section titled “Letting Customers Configure Their Own”Grant a customer organization the Update Notifications feature in Customers to let its admins decide who of their own users hears about a new version. They reach the page through Notifications in the sidebar, and can only pick the applications and artifacts they are entitled to and users of their own organization.
When a Notification Is Sent
Section titled “When a Notification Is Sent”An application notification is sent when a new version of a watched application is created, to every selected recipient who can see at least one deployment that runs an older version. Older is decided by the application’s versioning strategy: with SemVer, a customer already on 2.1.0 is not told about a 2.0.5 bugfix. A deployment whose entitlement does not cover the new version is left out for every recipient, and its customer hears about the version once the entitlement is widened.
An artifact notification is sent when a new tag is pushed to a watched artifact. Artifacts that mirror an upstream registry cannot be watched, because all of their versions appear at once when the mirror syncs.
Each recipient hears about a version once, however many deployments are affected and however many configurations cover them. A customer who watches the same application as you do receives one email, not two.
Notification Emails
Section titled “Notification Emails”Every email names the application or artifact and the new version, and links to Distr.
A recipient from your own team or a partner organization sees every affected customer and deployment in one email. A customer user sees only their own deployments.
